Court acquits engineer of molesting woman

The UAE’s top court acquitted an Arab engineer convicted by lower courts of molesting a woman while checking her bathroom.

A Court of First Instance had earlier sentenced the man to three months in prison and ordered his deportation from the UAE, prompting him to appeal the verdict.

The court of appeals upheld that sentence despite although he insisted he went to the woman’s apartment on the request of his company for maintenance.

Insisting he touched the woman by accident, the defendant appealed with the Federal Supreme Court, which acquitted him for lack of evidence.

“The FSC found that the sentenced issued by the appeals court was flawed and that it should have acquitted the defendant instead of sentencing him for lack of evidence,” the Dubai-based Arabic language daily 'Emarat Al Youm' daily said.
