Driver gropes woman after offering lift

A Pakistani driver was sentenced to three months in jail for groping a young woman to whom he offered a lift from her house to the place of work. 

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance also ordered RA, 37, to be deported after serving his jail term.

According to the records, the 19-year-old victim, AK, Emirati, complained that while she was waiting for a taxi near her house in the morning, a car stopped and she thought it was a taxi. 

Being late for work, she got into the car in the back seat and asked the driver to drop her at the work place which was about five minutes away from her house. When she reached the office, she asked the driver for the fare, but he refused to accept money.

“Instead, he asked me for my mobile number so that he could pick me every day. When I refused to give it to him, he turned towards me and groped my left leg down towards my ankle. He held my ankle in his hand to prevent me from getting off the car.

“While he was holding my ankle with one hand, he snatched my mobile phone with the other. Using it he dialled his number to my number on his mobile phone.

“I managed to my leg release from his grip and after snatching my mobile from his hand, I got off the car and ran away and his car also moved on,” the victim told investigators.

Police arrested the driver and accused him of molesting the girl. He denied the accusation and claimed that it was not the first time he dropped the girl at her office. He also claimed that he knew her before.

The girl’s father refuted the driver’s claim and testified that he had not assigned him to pick up and drop his daughter and that he did not know him before the incident.
