When a Pakistani passenger arriving at Abu Dhabi airport from Karachi volunteered by taking off his shoes for search, the customs men, instead of thanking the man, suspected him. Their suspicions came true as they seized four kg of heroin with him.
The passenger was the only one among hundreds of travellers to take off his shoes and place them on the scanning machine without being asked to do so.
“Customs men immediately suspected him and their suspicions increased when they noticed that he started to sweat heavily,” Emirat Alyoum daily said.
“They decided to search his baggage…after a while they found two bags containing four kg of heroin concealed expertly.”
During trial in Abu Dhabi on Monday, the defendant said he had been sent to the UAE to deliver the stuff to a man in Dubai in return for RP100,000.
“He also told court that he had made five smuggling operations in the UAE for the same person without being caught.”
