Drug-high youth assaults Dubai policeman

A jobless Emirati youth allegedly attacked an anti-narcotic police officer during his arrest, the Dubai Criminal Court heard. OHS, 27, is also accused of taking drugs.

Major Yaser Saeed testified that police had got a tip off that OHS possesses and takes drugs.

“After checking the authenticity of the information, police obtained the necessary permissions to arrest the suspect and search him, his car and his house.

“We raided his house and arrested him in his bedroom. He resisted his arrest strongly and hit Corporal Saeed Mubark who sustained injuries. Searching his room we found marijuana seeds hidden in a plastic packet. We also confiscated cigarette wrapping papers and filters.

“The accused kicked me with his legs and punched me with his fist while I was putting the cuff on his hand. I went to the hospital to get a medical report on the physical assault,” testified the victim.

A urine test proved that the accused had taken different drugs including Tramadol.

The accused denied taking drugs and showed a medical prescription.

However, the test proved that he had taken drugs not mentioned in the prescription.

The court will reconvene on April 17.
