Dubai cleaner on trial for kissing 7-year-old girl

A Bangladeshi cleaner in a Dubai school in who allegedly kissed a seven-year old girl student in the school’s playground, claimed he did so because the girl reminded him of his sister.

On March 3, EA was standing on a stone in the school’s playground. The cleaner MS, 22, approached her and, holding her from her waist, carried her and kissed her on her cheek.

“I did not ask him to do so, and when after doing that he put his finger on his lips and on my lips expressing willingness to kiss me on my lips, I ran away to my mother who was in the school,” the little girl told investigators.

Her mother AS, 50, Indonesian testified that her daughter came to her crying and telling her that the cleaner had kissed her.

“I went to the cleaner and confronted him. He denied the accusation and so I informed the school’s principal about the incident,” AS testified.

An assistant teacher in the school, who was translating for the accused as he did not speak English, testified that the cleaner initially denied the accusation but later claimed that he has just put his cheek to the little girl’s cheek as she reminded him of his sister.

The Court will give its verdict on September 17.
