The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced the Chinese man who was placing promotional stickers on cars at JBR to six months in jail for presenting another person’s ID card and offering Dh400 bribe to policemen to avoid arrest.

BW, 24, was also ordered to pay Dh400 as fine and to be deported after serving his jail term.

According to the records, the jobless man was stopped two times before police could arrest him the third time.

Each time he presented two different UAE ID cards that belonged to others before running away from policemen and disappearing.

But police managed to arrest him the third time before he could flee.

On January 1, at around 9pm, a police patrol spotted a Chinese man roaming suspiciously among cars in the parking lot behind Hilton Hotel at JBR.

Coming close to him, policemen found out that he was placing promotional stickers on cars.

“As this is illegal and for the safety of cars and motorists, we approached him to check his identity. His stickers were promoting a massage parlour. We showed him our military ID cards and asked him for his.

“The man, who does not speak Arabic or English, presented a UAE ID card which belonged to an older compatriot. We confronted him about that in sign language. Immediately, the man pulled out from his pocket four notes of Dh100 and offered them to us.

“We asked him to return the money to his pocket and while we were checking with the operations room about the holder of the ID card that the accused had presented, he ran away and disappeared amongst the public at the walkway,” Sergeant Hamed Mahmoud told investigators.

Two weeks later, On January 19, the officer again spotted the Chinese man at the same area placing promotional stickers on cars.

“I approached him and showed him my ID card but he pushed me and ran away towards the beach… While chasing him, I fell and hurt myself on the rocks,” the officer said.

On January 23, police again spotted the man placing stickers on cars.

“My colleague and I decided that we should approach him from two opposite direction to prevent him from running away.

“I approached him from one side and my colleague from the other. As he saw me, he smiled and turned his back to me, wanting to run away. At this time my colleague got hold of him.

"He resisted arrest and scratched my colleague near his eye. We cuffed his hands until police support arrived. Asking him about his ID, he presented a UAE ID card that belonged to another person.

"When I told him that was not his ID card,  he presented an ID card issued by his country’s authorities,” the policeman said.

The policeman was rushed to Rashid Hospital for treatment.

BW, 24, jobless, is accused of using two genuine ID cards of other two persons.

He is also accused of offering Dh400 bribe to policemen to avoid arrest.
