Dubai man acquitted of threatening ex-wife

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance has acquitted a Syrian man of abusing his ex-wife and threatening to kill her if she did not come back to him.

According to the records, after the 30-year-old victim, HJ, finished her work at a hospital in Dubai on June 9, she saw her ex-husband waiting for her in the street.

“He had asked me for a meeting but I had refused. On that day, I saw him waiting for me in the street in front of my office. He abused me and threatened to kill me if I did not go back to him,” the woman told investigators.

The ex-wife also supplied investigators with an SMS he had sent her which contained abuses for which she had lodged a complaint against him earlier.

The prosecution had asked the court to implement a stiff penalty against SA, 29.
