Father accidentally kills child in Fujairah

Tragedy struck at an Emirati family in Dibba Fujairah when a little boy was crushed to death by a car driven by his own father who was parking it into the house without noticing his son was standing behind the vehicle, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning, when Mohammed Rashid Al Abdouli returned home and tried to reverse the car through the gate and park it inside.

His son Mayed, aged around 2.5 years, rushed to see his father but he was hit by the vehicle before his little body was run over by the car tyre, Al Bayan daily said.

“His shocked father told police that he did not know his son was standing in the back……the man said he only knew that he ran over his own son when he felt that the car hit something,’ the paper said.

It quoted Dibba police chief Major Saif Al Zahmi as saying police were still investigating the incident after handing over Mayed’s body to his relatives for burial on Wednesday.

“I wonder if there is a bigger tragedy than a father killing his own son in such an accident…I can't describe the psychological condition of the father after learning he caused the death of his son,” Zahmi said, urging families to take utmost care when trying to park the car inside their houses.
