A Syrian driver allegedly raped a Filipina cleaner on her very first day on the job, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The victim, RA, 22, arrived in the country in May and her employer, a cleaning services company, was processing ID formalities for her when the driver asked her to clean his flat.

“He dropped me at the flat after which I went with him for ID formalities. The building was near the company accommodation. After I finished cleaning the flat, I informed him and headed for the door. He gave me Dh100 and asked me to return Dh30. I told him that I am new to the country and I don’t have money…

“He asked me to keep the change and gave me some skin creams, saying they are for women and he does not need them. I put the stuff in a paper bag I was carrying and started to leave. He stopped me by asking me to clean the TV.

“When I was cleaning the TV, he held me from the back and pulled me to the bed and sat on me, trying to undress me. I cried and shouted. I pushed him and kicked him but he raped me,” the cleaner testified.

After the rape, the cleaner put on her dress and rushed out of the flat and called her employer. Her employer, SA, Syrian, 39, could not understand what she was saying as she was crying hysterically.

“I asked her co-worker to call her to know what the problem was. When her co-worker told me about the rape, I rushed to the house and informed the police,” he testified.

Police arrested MN, 32, who claimed that it was consensual sex and that the cleaner had seduced him.

Forensic reported bruises on the victim’s body.

The Court will reconvene on October 23.
