Five people on trial for fatal attack on youth

Three brothers and their two friends allegedly attacked with choppers and swords a youth who lived in the neighbourhood and with whom they had a fight a year before the crime, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On March 13, 2015, three brothers KA, 22, jobless, QA, 20, employee, KA, 25, jobless, and their two friends HA, 25, jobless, and IS, 33, trader, planned and executed the crime that was known as 'Al Warqa' crime that shook the community because of its brutality.

The five are accused of premeditatedly killing Adnan, a youth who was preparing to get married in a couple of months and burning three others with acid.

At around 10.30pm, the gang called BN, jobless, whose military man friend, IS, was a friend of the deceased.

“When I was in BN’s house visiting him, he received a phone call. After he hung up on the call, he asked me to accompany him to meet a friend and I went with him,” testified the military man.

BN stopped in front of a house at Al Warqa 4 where a man was standing.

“I stayed in the car. However, I heard the man asking my friend BN about a third person. While I was in the car, I called my friend Adnan who stayed in the same area as I had not met him for a long time. I gave him my location and he came in his car accompanied by two friends,” testified the military man.

When Adnan arrived, he stopped about 30 metres away as he did not want to come closer to where NB and KA were standing in front of the latter’s house.

“Adnan told me that he had problems with KA and did not want to meet him. I got out of the car and greeted KA and his friend HA and then went to Adnan. KA followed me and asked Adnan if he was the one who had assaulted him. When Adnan answered yes, KA abused him and his family.

“Adnan and his two friends ‘A’ and ‘F’ got off the car. KA pulled out a knife with a blade of about 25cm from his pocket and threatened Adnan. All men tried to calm down KA and pull him back into his house,” testified the military man.

Adnan did not leave the scene and was very angry. However, he did not abuse KA but questioned loudly what KA wanted from him.

“While I was calming down Adnan and asking him to leave the place, KA’s younger brother, WA, 20, came with a glass bottle in his hand and broke it on Adnan’s friend ‘A’.
A burning liquid splashed on everyone at the scene including me. I fell on the ground because of severe burns in my face, eye and body. Adnan’s friends ‘A’ and ‘F’ as well as Adnan ran away.

“But since Adnan was somewhat plump, he fell while he was running away, so KA and his brothers and friends could reach him.

“I saw KA was trying to stab Adnan from his back while running behind him. When they reached him while he was on the road, they used their knives and swords, shovel and a rock in addition to their hands and legs, stabbing and hitting him,” said the military man.

“They stayed on, hitting him brutally for about 15 to 30 minutes. They left him only when he was covered with blood.

“I rushed to him and tried to help him while the attackers were leaving the place. I carried him, took him to his car, and drove him to Rashid Hospital. On the way, Adnan told me that he will die and while saying this he smiled.In the hospital, the medical staff asked me to go to Adnan. When I reached him, he told me that he is dying and in seconds he died,” testified the military man.

‘A’ and ‘F’, who suffered from the acid attack, were also rushed to the ICU for treatment of different types of burns. They required plastic surgery because their burns were severe, according to the records.

The military man denied that his friend BN had participated in the attack. However, he noted that the attackers were abnormal and most probably under the influence of drugs.

The deceased’s father told prosecutors that his son was preparing for his wedding in May and that he had just returned from visiting his fiancé before the attack.

Police arrested some of the accused who tried to run away to Sharjah by car. Police chased and arrested them in Sharjah.

They all denied using knives and swords in the attack. However, they admitted to beating the accused with their hands.

One of the three brothers KA, 25, attempted suicide after the crime and was arrested in a hospital in Al Ain.

Police arrested the three brothers KA, 22, jobless, QA, 20 employee, KA, 25, jobless and their two friends HA, 25 jobless, and IS, 33, trader, who participated in the attack.

All denied the charge except KA who admitted to it. KA told the police that he attacked Adnan who had attacked him a year before in a petrol station.

Police heard testimonies of all of those who witnessed or were involved in the crime.

After investigating the interrelated and complicated attack, police found out that the three brothers and their two friends were involved in attacking and stabbing the deceased while the rest were witnesses.

KA denied the charges of premediated murder against Adnan and burning the other three people with acid when he appeared before the court.

The court will reconvene on April 27.
