Footballer seeks Dh15m in damages from woman

A foreign footballer who had played for a UAE club in the eastern region is demanding Dh15 million damages from an Emirati woman for inflicting a permanent disability on him in a road accident.

The unnamed player rejected a court sentence offering him Dh400,000 and filed an appeal case against the woman and her insurance company, the Arabic language daily Alittihad said on Thursday.

The player was driving in Kalba in December 2009 when a speeding car rammed into his vehicle, causing severe damage to the car and resulting in a fracture in his backbone. “The player is demanding damages from the woman for causing him permanent disability…the appeals court will hear the case on November 14.”
