A jobless Pakistani was sentenced to three years in prison for obtaining 12 SIM cards using forged documents and making telephone calls for Dh1.3 million in just one month.

MA, 23, was also ordered by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance to be deported after serving his jail term.

According to the records, MA told an Etisalat employee that he needs a number of SIM cards for his company’s employees. With the applications for SIM cards, he attached salary certificates on the company’s letterhead and photocopies of passports and labour cards of the staff that carried valid residence visas. He was issued 12 SIM cards.

When the bills on the 12 SIM cards reached Dh1,273,852,  Etisalat contacted the company’s owner MI who denied that the SIM card holders were on his staff.

Checking the documents with the Ministry of Labour and DNRD, it was proved that the salary certificates, passport photocopies and photocopies of residence visas and labour cards were all forged.

The accused, who had been convicted earlier for a similar crime and was sentenced to three months in jail followed by deportation last May, admitted to this crime too.
