Four Europeans held in Dubai for stealing gold worth Dh3m

Four people hailing from Eastern European countries were busted by Dubai Police and arrested for stealing gold jewellery from homes situated in different parts of the emirate.

Dubai Police described the gang of four as 'professionals' as they had succeeded in targeting a number of villas and apartments during daytime while the homeowners were away or at work.

The thieves pretended to be tourists and chose their victims carefully after monitoring their daily activities, said Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Chief of Dubai Police.

Dubai Police received complaints from residents living in different parts of the emirate about thieves breaking into homes while it was vacant and escaping with valuables and gold jewellery.

The thieves were in the country on a visit visa and were staying at a hotel in the Naif area, said Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affair.

The detectives analysed the thefts that had taken place and quickly came up with a plan to identify them and place them under surveillance in order to catch them in action and recover all the stolen jewellery.

Major General Al Mansouri said that the thieves used to hide their loot in the beach. They pretended to hit the open beach for some sun, sand and the sea, but dug their way into the ground in order to hide the stolen jewellery.

The thieves were caught by the detectives while they were digging on the beach. They pleaded guilty, were arrested and referred to public prosecution.

The victims of this gang got their stolen jewellery back after identifying them.

Major General Al Mansouri explained that the Department of Criminal Investigation of Dubai Police spotted many security flaws resulting from negligence, lack of vigilance in a lot of apartments that led to the thefts.
