Attackers dragged a pedestrian into a building and pushed him into the lift and pressed one of the buttons after robbing him at knife point, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

At midnight on July 16, 30-year-0ld MM, Indian salesman, was walking to Al Baraha Hospital when a car stopped next to him. Three people got off the car and attacked him.

“Two of the three stopped me and pointed a knife at me while the third put his hand in my pocket and stole my Nokia mobile and Dh370 in cash. After robbing me, they dragged me into a nearby building and pushed me into the left before pressing a button and fleeing,” the victim told investigators.

On the following day, police arrested the Pakistani car driver, SA, 24, at in Muraqqabat. SA told police that his two friends had asked him to drop them to Dubai since he has a car. He dropped them to Dubai and when they saw the pedestrian they asked him to stop, testified Sergeant Isa Abdulrahman who questioned the accused.

“He also claimed that the two had got out of the car and attacked the pedestrian and threatened him with a knife before robbing him. My role was to watch the area,” the accused told the officer.

However, the victim recognized SA as one of the attackers when shown to him via identification parade. The Dubai Prosecution asked the court to implement stiffest penalty against the accused.

The court will reconvene on November 13.
