Man assaulted for not fulfilling visa promise

A clerk with the help of fugitives allegedly assaulted a man late at night and stole his mobile, golden chain and Dh2,200 cash, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

SRM, 27, is also accused of consuming alcohol.

The victim, Alauddin Miah, Bangladeshi cleaner, testified that while he was standing in front of a Supermarket at Al Nakheel area at 3.30am on March 3, the accused and three of his friends assaulted him and beat him with fists and kicks.

“The searched my pocket and stole my wallet which contained Dh2,200. They also snatched a gold chain worth Dh2,400, and also stole my Nokia N71 which is of Dh950 value and ran away,” he testified.

The victim reported the incident to Naif Police Station.

Police arrested SRM who confessed to the crime but denied stealing anything him.

SRM told the police that he had paid Miah Dh8,000 against issuing a visa for one of his relatives since two years but he did not get a visa issued for him.

“As I left the night club, I met Miah and asked him to pay me back the money. A fight broke out and I beat him,” he confessed denying that he hit him with a brick or any other tool. He also denied being accompanied by anyone else.

Police could not find any of the victim’s stuff from the accused. The court adjourned the case for verdict to June 11.
