After his ex-wife refused to remarry him, a sailor allegedly sought to cancel from his family record the name of a boy to whom he had given his name although he was not his son, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

According to the records, AG, 53, Emirati sailor agreed to give his name to the son of his divorcee on the condition that she would remarry him.

“I knew that the child was not my son because we were divorced on April 24, 2001 while she gave birth to her baby boy on July 25, 2002.

“My ex-wife asked me to issue the boy official documents and she gave me a birth certificate from a local hospital. I put a condition on her that I will do that if she agrees to re-marry me. As she accepted, I took the documents and went to the Dubai Naturalisation and Foreign Affairs Department where I gave the boy my name,” said AG.

The ex-wife did not fulfill her promise of remarrying AG, so the latter lodged a parental case against her.

The court issued a ruling in his favour after ascertaining that he was not the biological father of the child.

When he approached the authorities to cancel the boy’s name from his family record, he was arrested on charge of falsification .

The court will reconvene on June 17.
