A fierce gang war in Dubai between rival groups of younsters left an 18-year old Comoros national dead. Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Tamim, chief of Dubai Police, called for the need to control the use of weapons among teenagers.

According to the Dubai Police six young Emiratis have been arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution after the gang fight in which weapons were used and the victim was run over by a car.

Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director of the CID, said that two groups from Oud Al Mutainah and Al Warqaa areas clashed in what is being billed as a revenge attack over a previous trivial issue.

The group from Al Warqaa drove on Friday in two cars to the Oud Al Mutainah area, where they fought two Emirati brothers, and a third holding a Comoros nationality, using weapons.

The fight, in which knives and other weapons were used, left boys in both groups with serious injuries.

The Warqaa group when fleeing the scene in their car ran over the Comoros national in the second group, Al Mansouri said.

CID teams arrested all suspects near the location of the incident and the vehicle used in the crime was seized as well.

Investigation is on to establish whether the driver ran over the deceased deliberately or not, Al Mansouri added.

Major General Khamees Mater Muzainah, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police, said that there will be no tolerance towards people who carry weapons for the purpose of fighting or committing a crime and that they will be brought to justice.
