In less than 48 hours of the crime, Sharjah Police have arrested four people, all of Pakistani nationality, who burgled the Damas  jewellery store of ornaments worth about Dh2 million.

The central operations room of Sharjah Police informed the Department of Criminal Investigation in the early hours of Monday that the jewellery store’s theft alarm bell had rung.  Investigation officers immediately went to the burgled shop which had a glass façade facing the street.

Forensic experts who inspected the site found out that more than one person were involved in breaking the glass façade to enter the jewellery store. In the light of the data and evidence at the scene of the crime, several investigation teams were formed.

Police identified two suspects, one of whom lived in Ajman. He was arrested with the co-operation of Ajman police. He had already been convicted of theft and deported but had entered the country illegally in 2010. He was deported again but managed to enter UAE again in 2012.

He led them to a house in Satwa in Dubai where some of the stolen jewellery was found. The rest of the stolen goods were found in a vehicle and in another suspect’s home in Al Nahda.

The four suspects had divided the stolen jewellery among themselves and were planning to escape to a neighbouring country on Wednesday at dawn.

Brigadier Abdullah Mubarak , deputy commanding general of Sharjah Police, said the glass façade of the jewellery store inside the mall helped the suspects to enter it. The surveillance systems were not working effectively, he added.
