Steal car, steal number plate... drive to Dubai jail

Two students and a jobless man allegedly stole number plates of a car and fixed it on a car they had stolen, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Corporal Raed Abdulrahim, testified that on March 7, he caught MHS, 21, driving a white Corrola that carried a stolen number plate.

“When I double checked the number plate with the car’s specifications, I realsied that these were different.

"When I confronted him, he confessed to stealing the car and the number plate from another car with other two accomplices. He confessed that they had stolen the first car in Sharjah’s Industrial Area No.4 and drove it to Dubai where they got rid of its plate numbers.

"On the same night, they saw a car of the same model and so they stole its number plates and fixed them on the stolen car,” he testified.

The other two accomplices, HMM, 19, jobless and AHA, 19, student, were arrested and confessed to stealing a car and a number plate of another, he added.

The three are being prosecuted in another theft case.

The court adjourned the case to November 28.
