Taxi driver gropes woman in lift at 2.30am

An Egyptian taxi driver, who noticed a Filipina talking to a friend down a building at 2.30am, got into the lift behind her and kissed and groped her forcibly, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
 
On June 14, the victim MJ, 28, went down the building at around 2.30am to talk to a friend.
 
As she was stepping back into the building, a man followed her and offered his mobile phone for her to talk.
 
She refused his offer and told him that she has a mobile and credit to talk if she wanted to.
 
“He chased me and again he made his offer. I did not give him any attention and continued walking towards the lift,” she said.
 
She got into the lift and all of a sudden the man rushed into the lift while the door was closing.
 
“I pressed the eighth floor button and as the lift started moving up, the man gazed at me, pushed me to the lift’s wall, held my left hand up to the wall and kissed on my lips.. I screamed and shouted and beat him with my right hand. He groped my breasts and private parts. When the lift reached the eighth floor, he prevented me from getting out and pushed me into the lift. The lift moved down, so I pressed on the ground floor button. He hugged and groped me again. When the lift reached the ground floor, he pressed the fifth floor button and continued groping me. When the door opened, with all my strength I pushed him in with all my strength, got out and ran away,” said the victim.
 
The victim reported the incident to the police who investigated it and arrested taxi driver AA, 23.

The court will reconvene on August 27 to summon the accused.
