Tourist robs Abu Dhabi cab at knife-point

A foreign tourist waved for a silver cab in Abu Dhabi and asked its driver to take to his destination. A few minutes later, the tourists pulled a knife, put it close to the driver’s face and ordered him to get out before jumping behind the wheel and driving away.

The 24-year-old driver told police that he was shocked by the sudden act by the tourist and that he had no choice but to leave the car.

Police said they seized the 44-year-old tourist a few hours later with the help of a tracking device planted in the car and connected to a central monitoring system at TransAd, which manages the six private sector taxi companies in the capital.

“After searching the taxi, police found the knife used by the tourist to threaten the driver…the tourist said he took the car to go on a sight-seeing tour in the city,” the Dubai-based Arabic language daily Emarat Alyoum said without identifying the man.
