A driving examiner suspected an applicant who was hiding his facial features with a scarf (‘ghutra’) when sat for the test, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On January 22, driving examiner Hilal Ibrahim, 52, asked the licence applicant to present an ID other than the training permit.

The applicant stammered while saying that he does not have any ID document with him.

The examiner asked the applicant to show his facial features.  Comparing the picture that was on the permit with the man sitting next to him, the examiner found out that he was another person so he reported the matter to the police.

Police found out that FA, Pakistani driving trainer, 36, sat for the test instead of  MH, 30, Bangladeshi, whom he trained in driving.

Police found out that the licence applicant had approached the appointment counter and submitted his permit to sit for the test. The concerned employee assured that the man who had approached him was the same one whose picture was on the permit.

“I checked the picture on the permit with the applicant standing in front of me and he was the same person,” assured the employee.

FA admitted to agreeing with MH to sit for the test for money. MH also admitted to the agreement and said he does not remember what the amount was.

The applicant MH is also being prosecuted for criminal complicity.

FA claimed that the devil had pushed him to do the crime and asked for mercy.

The court will reconvene on November 12.
