A policeman who holds a Comoros passport, allegedly forged his previous and expired UAE passport and used it to take a Dh800,000 loan, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

HAH, 28, policeman, submitted a forged photocopy of his expired passport by changing the validity date, to a bank and obtained a loan of Dh800,000.

The legal manager of the bank, MSA, Palestinian, 46, testified that Dubai Police had asked the bank to check documents submitted by HAH.

“We found out that HAH had taken a loan against photocopies of documents including his passport. The bank was satisfied with his military ID card and did not ask him to submit his original passport. Police checked the passport photocopy and reported that it was forged,” he testified.

AS, Egyptian, sales representative at the bank, testified that HAH had an account with the bank and that he used to take frequent loans. In 2011, he approached the bank for two loans and was granted a total Dh800,000.

He submitted a photocopy of an Emirati passport, saying he did not have the original.

This was accepted since he was a regular customer of the bank, he testified.

The court adjourned the case for verdict on September 25.
