A Briton and an Indian will be deported from the UAE after serving a year in jail and paying back the money ‘stolen’ from victims.

The Al Ain Misdemeanours Court gave its verdict in a case where the defendants allegedly sold fake land in London.

According to media reports, at least 40 investors from the UAE were cheated by the duo, who operated a realty company without licence and made Dh3million.

They published advertisements in newspapers claiming their company sold plots of land in northern London with prices ranging between Dh30,000 and Dh60,000 to lure victims in the Emirates.

Police raided their residence and confiscated Dh100,000 and some electronic devices used in the alleged fraud.  Another Dh250,000 in bank deposits were also frozen.

A Swedish woman and another Brit were also tried in the same case, but were acquitted.
