The use of a Bluetooth earphone the size of a lentil is being used by students to cheat during exams, teachers have complained.

According to a report in Al Khaleej newspaper, a large number of complaints have come in most of which claim: “The earphone its very small and they use it to cheating in exams.”

Education officials that investigated the matter said that these headsets are highly sophisticated and not cheap.

The report states that one official said he found that the headset is equipped with a switch which can be hidden in the shoe to cut transmission.

One of the students, who has bought such a speaker, said he paid Dh1,000 for it and that it is freely available in a lot of shops selling mobile phones.

“It can be purchased on the internet for Dh560,” the report quoted him as saying.

He added, “It has so many specifications to enable the student to cheat in the exam without fear of discovery, including high definition sound.”

Education officials fear the only way to catch students using these devices is to pass them through a metal detector.
