Visitor gives passport to sister to help leave UAE

A woman visitor from Kyrgyzstan allegedly helped her sister, who was living illegally in the UAE, to leave the country by using her passport, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

JM, 41, came to the UAE in April on a visit visa to help her sister, whose initials were the same as hers and had a very similar name, to leave the UAE using her passport. 

JM went to a travel agent and bought her sister an air ticket and gave her passport which the latter used to leave the UAE at a time when she had overstayed her visa for almost a year.

 JM then approached a police station and claimed that she had lost her passport and obtained a document using which she could leave the country.

The records did not mention who discovered the offence but it said that camera footage at the travel agent’s office was reviewed and police found out that JM had visited them to buy a return air ticket for her sister.

The court will reconvene on December 10.
