A waiter allegedly withdrew Dh5,000 from the account of a customer whose credit card went missing after using it in the restaurant where he worked, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
On February 18, at around 11pm, MM, 41, Jordanian pharmacist, accompanied her family to have dinner in a restaurant at Dubai Marina.
“After finishing dinner, I paid for it using my bank credit card. When I left the restaurant I did not check my card. On the next day, I received a message from the bank informing me about withdrawal of Dh5,000. I checked in my purse and did not find the card, so I asked the bank to block it and then went to the police station and lodged a complaint,” she said.
The finder of the card used it to purchase readymade garments.
Police arrested YM, 25, waiter in the restaurant in which the victim had dinner the night before. Police also confiscated the readymade garments he bought using the victim’s card.
The court will give its sentence on June 16.
