A Jordanian manager allegedly stole four cheques of her employer and used one of them to buy cosmetics worth Dh70,000 from a dealer, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.

After receiving the cheque from AA, 26, for a cosmetic deal, AA, contacted the owner of the company HF and asked him if he signed the cheque of Dh70,000 value.

“I told him that I do not know anything about the deal. I met him and found that was not my handwriting and signature. I checked in the company and found that there were three more cheques missing from the cheque book. Then I realised that AA had stolen cheques; so I lodged a complaint with the police,” testified the employer HF.

The beneficiary of the cheque did not collect the amount and returned cheque to the woman’s employer.

Police arrested the Jordanian manager who admitted to her crime. She claimed that she used only one cheque and burnt the other three.

During an interrogation, the accused told inspectors that she stole four cheques when she was asked to use office cheques for an electronic filling purpose. She had taken the cheque book from the employer’s secretary.

When she had finished the work, she returned the cheque book to the secretary with four cheques missing.

“I admitted to the crime and I used only one cheque and burnt the rest at my home. I admit to my mistake,” she told the court during the hearing.

The court will reconvene on August 3.
