A jobless youth allegedly attempted to kill his friend after he was forced to leave his room, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

JRJ, 25, Emirati, is accused of premeditated murder attempt and possessing gun and bullets without licence. He is also accused of putting other people’s lives in danger while trying to shoot his friend on January 29.

The victim ASM, 21, student, testified that he was operating the play station with three friends in an external room of his house in Al Mankhoul.

JRJ come and sat with them. “He was drunk. One of my friends Rashid left and JRJ started making problems. I asked him to keep quiet but he continued to annoy us. I forced him to leave the room to avoid a major problem later. He left and I locked the door.

“Half an hour later, someone knocked at the door. There was no reply from the knocker who continued knocking. I opened the door a little and I could see that JRJ was holding a gun. He inserted the barrel of the gun in the door and it was pointing at my head. I seized the barrel and pushed it up and then I heard a shot. The bullet hit the wardrobe and damaged it and also hurt one of my friends. JRJ ran away with his gun and I called the police,” ASM testified.

The second victim MAS, 34, jobless, Emirati sustained injuries in his head and forehead because of the shot. He said “I thought the gun’s barrel was a steel pipe that JRJ wanted to use to attack us. He was pushing at the door with it and ASM was trying to push up the barrel of the gun. Then I heard the shot and got injured,” MAS testified.

MNM, 17, Emirati, student, and QAS, 20, jobless, Omani, were also in the room when JRJ returned and attacked them with a gun.

Police reported that the bullets got into the wardrobe from one side and got out of it from the other and then hit the wall, leaving traces of carbon at holes it caused in the wardrobe, proving that it was shot from a close distance.

Police arrested JRJ and confiscated a semi-automatic P. Beretta and another gun of RS mark. Police found out that bullet removed from the scene of the crime carried the same fingerprints as those on the semi-automatic gun.

The court will reconvene on July 30.
