20-year old girl caught just before jumping in suicide bid

Published

A Saudi police officer managed to catch a 20-year-old local girl just before she was about to jump down from the top of a high rise building in the Gulf kingdom in a bid to commit a suicide, a newspaper reported on Monday.

Captain Abdul Aziz Al Shammari tried to dissuade the girl from jumping down but she appeared to be determined to kill herself by jumping down from the top of the building housing King Khaled Charity Society in the northwestern town of Tabuk.

“She appeared to be determined to jump down but Captain Shammari was quicker in his jump,” Sabq Arabic language daily said.

“He tried to negotiate with the girl to persuade her not to kill herself. He suddenly leaped at her and caught her just before she was about to jump down.”

The paper said the girl later told police she attempted a suicide because of mistreatment at the Society, where she lives.
