An Ethiopian housemaid went berserk and assaulted her employing family in Saudi Arabia with a cleaver, prompting the mother and her children to run out of the house.
Attracted by the mother’s screams on the road, passers-by in the central town of Afif called the police who rushed to the scene and surrounded the house.
“The maid then barricaded herself inside, prompting police to storm the house and arrest the woman,” Alsaudeh daily said without mentioning the maid’s motive.
It was the latest in a series of armed attacks by Ethiopian housemaids against their employers in the Gulf Kingdom. Some of the attacks resulted in deaths, prompting Riyadh to suspend hiring of maids from that African country.
