Man arrested for raping schoolgirl

Colombo - A 27-year-old married man has been arrested by the Akuress Police for raping a 16-year-old schoolgirl by frightening her during family’s absence from the house, ‘Mawbima’ reported.

The victim, who came to the Akuressa Police with her mother lodged a complaint that the suspect had come home about one-and-a-half month ago during her family’s absence and raped her.

It has been revealed that the suspect had worked at the victim’s house as a carpenter some time ago and when the victim was admitted to the Akuressa hospital for some ailment, the doctors had confirmed that she was pregnant after a medical examination.

The police have arrested the suspect and he is due to be produced before the Matara magistrate court. Akuressa police are conducting investigations.
