A Saudi mother of eight children is appealing for help to pay diya (blood money) and escape execution after she was convicted of murdering her Indonesian housemaid last year, press reports in the Gulf kingdom said on Monday.

The woman’s husband, Ahmed Asiri, said his wife must pay SR300,000 (Dh293,816.8) to the victim’s relatives so she can be saved and released.

The relatives had demanded a diya of SR1.15m ($310,000) but agreed to reduce the sum following mediation by the Indonesian embassy in Riyadh.

The 38-year-old woman, who has been in jail in the southern province of Asir awaiting execution for more than a year, has eight children, including two twin girls Tulin and Tala, the youngest.
