Saudi police bust gang smuggling diesel to the UAE

Saudi police arrested several local men caught smuggling diesel to the UAE through the western Red Sea port of Jeddah.

Police are interrogating the smugglers, all Saudis, and a local newspaper said large quantities of diesel had already been smuggled to the Emirates.

Acting on a tip off, police raided a deserted bushy place and seized thousands of small bottles filled with diesel produced by the government-owned Saudi Aramco, Alhayat Arabic language daily said.

“Police seized nearly 20 six-metre containers containing small bottles filled with diesel…the smuggler confessed that these bottles were to be exported to the UAE through Jeddah port,” the paper said.

It said police did not disclose which port in the UAE had received the smuggled products.
