Severe lashing by husband sends wife to hospital

An alcoholic Saudi husband returned home on the first day of Eid Al Adha, ripped his wife’s clothes and lashed her many times in front of her five little sons.

Doctors said she suffered from severe injuries on the back, hands and face.

The unnamed wife said her husband tortured her without any reason and that he had beaten her up in front of their children many times since they married 12 years ago. She said she had asked for divorce but her plea was rejected.

“Over the past 12 years, I and my children have been subject to regular beating by my alcoholic husband…I have been to court to ask for divorce but he judge rejected my plea on the grounds the children need their father,” the  Saudi woman said, quoted by the Arabic language daily 'Alsaudi'.

In a report from the northwestern town of Tabuk, it said the wife’s sister informed the police about the lashing but did not make clear if the husband was arrested.
