Father rapes underage daughter after mother goes on overseas job

A 38-year-old father of three was arrested by Puttalam police in Sri Lanka for raping his 13-year-old daughter several times, ‘Lakbima’ reported.

The victim from Athungoda area in Kottukachchiya, is a grade eight student of a school in the same area.

The girl with her two younger sisters were living under the care of the father since their mother had gone for overseas employment.

Since the girl could not bear father’s harassment, she related the incident to her grandmother, who lodged a complaint at Puttalam police station.

Police arrested the suspect after medical examination proved that the girl was raped several times.

The suspect to be produced before the Puttalam District Court.

13-year-old schoolboy hangs himself at home

A 13-year-old schoolboy committed suicide on Tuesday afternoon by hanging himself with school tie at his home, Sri Lanka’s ‘Mawbima’ reported.

The victim, who was a grade eight student, had come home after the school around 2.00 pm and half-an-hour later when a neighbour visited the home, he found the boy hanging, Atampitiya police in Sri Lanka said.

Police investigations revealed that his parents had gone to work in the estate during the incident while his sister had gone out to a neighbour’s house.

Police continue their investigations.

Youth rapes underage girl after making friendship with her

An 18-year-old youth was arrested by the Katunayake police in Sri Lanka for sexually abusing a 16-year-old schoolgirl in a cinema hall in Katunayake area, ‘Lankadeepa’ reported.

Police said the youth after starting an affair with the underage girl, had taken her to several lodges in the Katunayake area, where they were not given any accommodation as the girl was underage.

Later he had too her to a cinema hall where she was raped by the youth.

The girl told the incident to her classmate, who then told this to the victim’s mother and she lodged a complaint at the Katunayake police. The police arrested the suspect on November 9th.

The suspect is said to be employed in a beauty salon and stays in a boarding house adjoining the girl’s house.
