Robbers fracture skull of woman 15 hours into labour

A gang of five men, armed with baseball bats and crowbar smashed their way into a pregnant woman's home, while she was in labour and her boyfriend was packing her maternity bag upstairs, as they were getting ready to leave for hospital for their child's imminent birth.

The thugs attacked the woman and slashed her face with a butcher's knife while she was suffering contractions at six-minutes interval and had already been in labour for 15 hours.

Scans later showed that she even suffered fracture in her skill. Her wound had to be stitched up by the doctors.

The 22-year-old brave woman haemorrhaged during delivery, but gave birth to a healthy baby boy, merely hours after the armed robbery.

The intruders used the crowbar to shatter the glass windows and stage their entry into the couple's home, the 33-year-old boyfriend told the police. He was battered by the gang members when he rushed downstairs to save his girlfriend from the thugs. He is traumatised by the experience.

His biggest regret is that his girlfriend is still in hospital, recovering from facial and skull wounds, when she should be at home, enjoying the joys of motherhood.
