Son attempts to molest mother

Colombo - A young man, who attempted to molest his mother and later flee after snatching her gold necklace, has been arrested by Maligawatta police, ‘Mawbima’ reported.
 
Police arrested him upon a tip-off that the suspect was hiding at a certain place and after grilling him, police found the gold necklace weighing two-and-a-half pounds from a pawn shop.
 
The suspect, married and a father of one, was abandoned by his wife some time ago.
 
On the day of the incident, the suspect attempted to molest his mother and the woman, who escaped from his clutches, tried to leave home to lodge a complaint.

He then fled home after snatching his mother’s gold necklace, police said.
Maligawatta police are investigating.

 
Two rape 19-year-old

Two men who raped a 19-year-old woman escaped after having robbed gems from her home at Sidurupitiya in Nivithigala in the night, have been arrested by Nivithigala police, ‘Mawbima’ reported.

The suspects had tied the family in a room after scaring them before raping the young woman and robbing the home.

Within 12 hours of the incident, the police arrested the two suspects along with a sharp weapon and a toy pistol used for the crime.

Police said the value of the gems robbed was about SLR40,000 and they had recovered some gems half of the value.

Nivithigala police are investigating.
