Teacher beats student, leaves black eyes

A teacher faces termination after leaving a 6-year-old pupil with black eyes when she struck her across the face with a ruler for making a spelling mistake.

The girl needed hospital treatment for severe bruising under her eyes.

Local media in north-eastern Vietnam's Bat Xat district reports that instead of helping her student, the teacher waited for the girl to get it wrong and then lashed her across the face.

Education officials have suspended the teacher who works at the Phin Ngan Elementary School and say she could be dismissed after an investigation.

The little girl's mother said that her daughter reached home with the help of two friends.

The mother said her daughter's face was swelling and there were bruises near her eyes. She was very upset and frightened and was in severe pain.
