British Airways said yesterday it will launch new twice-weekly services from Gatwick to Montego Bay and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic starting October 25 this year.

The UK flagship carrier, which operates 28 weekly flights from the UAE to London Heathrow, will also raise the number of flights to other destinations in the Caribbean.

It said in a statement that the number of services from London's Gatwick Airport to the island of St Lucia will go up from three flights a week to five flights a week; the weekly flights to Barbados will increase from 9 to 10; and the flights to Port of Spain (Trinidad) from three flights a week to five flights a week.

"The Caribbean tends to be a popular destination for our leisure customers seeking a relaxing winter break. Customers will benefit from convenient air connections as well as a range of competitive holiday packages," said Paolo De Renzis, British Airways' Area Commercial Manager for the Middle East, in a statement.

The carrier recently said it will commence a daily non-stop service to Las Vegas from its £4.3 billion (Dh26bn) home at Heathrow's Terminal 5 as well as thrice-weekly services to Male in the Maldives and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt.
