Virgin Atlantic has become the latest customer for SkyChain, a comprehensive end-to-end IT cargo management system developed by Mercator, an Emirates Group subsidiary.

Mercator, a Dubai-based business technology provider, plans to complete implementation of the system by April 2009. The solution will be implemented at Virgin Atlantic Cargo headquarters in Crawley, England, to be used by their staff and partners globally.

"Virgin Atlantic put our team and our solution through an extremely rigorous selection process. We are delighted to now be their provider and look forward to implementing a business transforming solution," said Duncan Alexander, Vice-President of Mercator.

The British carrier becomes the fifth airline to join the client list for Mercator's SkyChain solution, including Emirates Airline, Swiss WorldCargo, Midex Airlines and SriLankan.

"We are delighted that we will now have cutting-edge systems of supporting our service and staff. It is time for us to provide customers with the levels of connectivity they require, along with streamlined business processes," said John Lloyd, Director of Cargo, Virgin Atlantic.
