The winners of the second annual Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed Youth Media Award will be announced today at a special ceremony at the First Group Theatre, Souk Madinat Jumeirah.

Five distinguished talents in four different categories, will be recognised by the award organisers under the patronage of Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. The categories are radio, video and press. Sheikh Majid had also commissioned the addition of a fourth category in this year's edition for the best presenter/moderator in a step aimed at further expansion of the award.

According to the organisers, the award aims to stimulate and promote emerging media talent among UAE national youth. Prizes for the award amount to more than Dh1 million. The number of winners in the print, radio and video categories had been raised from three last year to five. Meanwhile, the winner in the category of best TV presenter will win a cash prize in addition to a one-year contract with Arab Media Group's Noor Dubai radio and television. AMG is the official media sponsor of the award.

The jury comprises distinguished media professionals who evaluated the entries and drew up a list of qualifiers in each category.

Jury members include Ali Shahdour, Executive Editor-in-Chief of Al Bayan; Maryam Bin Fahad, Executive Director of Dubai Press Club; Mohammad Naser, News Presenter at Dubai TV's news centre; Haidar Mohammed, Cartoonist and Director/Producer of Shabiyat Al Cartoon; and Mohammed Saeed Harib, Producer of the GCC's most popular animated series Freej.

The shortlisted entries were submitted to a public vote starting on March 26, featured in AMG's newspapers, radio stations and television channels.

The first edition of the Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed Youth Media Award generated a huge interest and led to identifying home-grown talent that went on to receive consistent support from Noor Dubai TV.

Last year's winners included Saif Fadel whose video was created with the support of Noor Dubai TV and will soon be aired on the channel. Radio news presenter Amal Ali, as well as a number of videographers who underwent training sessions at Noor Dubai TV, were also among the winners of the first edition.
