Dubai Customs has foiled, for the second time in less than a week, an attempt to smuggle drugs.

They found three kilograms of crystal methamphetamine with an African businesswoman who was coming to Dubai.

A female customs inspector in Terminal 1 suspected the passengers and the African's luggage were searched. The inspectors found five plastic bags wrapped in brown adhesive tape and stuffed into the sides and bottom of the luggage. The passenger denied any knowledge of the drugs, saying an African friend had given her the luggage. He claimed it contained food, which was intended to reach a person in an Asian country to which the woman was supposed to travel.

The woman was supposed to receive $30,000 (Dh110,100) from the man in Asia. The African business woman was handed over to the anti-narcotic department of Dubai police.

The operation comes four days after a Nigerian businesswoman tried to smuggle some seven kg of cocaine into Dubai.

First manager of airport operations management Ali Al Maqhawi said the crystal methamphetamine is commonly used in a number of European and Asian countries.
