The Dubai Metro is set to make its first appearance in a full-feature film this September, it has been confirmed.

Following the news that Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was shooting scenes for his latest flick, Dabangg, in several locations in the UAE, Emirates Business has learnt that the film is due out this Eid-ul-Fitr, the Islamic festival that follows the holy month of Ramadan.

Peyman Younes Parham, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), who was at the shoot, told the publication: "We got a call about a week ago expressing interest in filming in Dubai.

"After the permissions were granted, Salman Khan as well as some other cast and crew [Khan, his brother Arbaaz and his wife Malaika, plus actress Sonakshi Sinha] filmed on Friday at Khalid bin Al Waleed station between 8am and 2.30pm."

Parham added that Salman and company shot a dance sequence across several metro locations, including the station's entrance and ticket counter. "Khan plays a cop from a small Indian town, and this scene is meant to be about how his character takes his wife [played by Sinha] on a honeymoon to Dubai,"?he said.

Arbaaz Khan is producing Dabangg, and it will be the first production venture under his newly-launched company Arbaaz Khan Productions. On his official Twitter page, Arbaaz stated: "We shot inside the Dubai Metro. First time ever a film shoot allowed here. We got blanket permission to shoot anywhere. Quite a novelty."

Shooting was scheduled to take place in Switzerland, but due to the Icelandic volcano that closed out European airspace when it erupted last month, filming was relocated to Dubai.

The gang also filmed at the Palace Suite of the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, as well as locations in the desert.
