This festive season brought bumper delight for India's Sushil Kumar. He becomes the first participant on the TV game show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' (KBC) to win the jackpot.
'Emirates24|7' learnt that the 27-year-old Kumar answered the winning question worth Rs5 crore (Dh3.72 m) asked by host Amitabh Bachchan during the episode shot on Tuesday evening.
Sources from KBC told the website: "Sushil is a computer operator from Champaran, Bihar. He recently got married and also works as a part-time tutor".
The Rs5cr is presumably the highest prize-money awarded on any Indian TV game shows.
The episode will go on air on Sony entertainment on November 2.
Amitabh Bachchan seemed excited about the win and wrote on his twitter account: "T538 -What a day at KBC .. !!! the best ever since I started in 2000 ..Sushil Kumar came from small town in Bihar and won 5 cr!!Amazing!"
He continued, "T 538 - Earns a salary of Rs6,500/- walks out in an hour with 5 cr rupees .. that is what KBC is all about.. 'aam' se khas bana deta hai'"
