If one goes by earnings at the box office, the year 2012 has been lucky for actors as well as producers. Forget the total net collections, even the openings of the movies have strengthened the position of the actors and stars. Let us see who are the stars whose films opened well.

Salman Khan ('Ek Tha Tiger')

The biggest opening of the year also went to none other than Salman Khan. The film that has got him the No. 1 opener position is 'Ek Tha Tiger'. The film that released on Eid managed to collect close to Rs 33 crore on the first day itself. Katrina Kaif was Salman Khan’s leading lady in the film and the spy thriller was directed by Kabir Khan. This was Salman Khan’s first film with YRF.

Hrithik Roshan ('Agneepath')

The opening day collection list taking the No. 2 position is Hrithik Roshan, whose film 'Agneepath' managed Rs 21.67 crore. The film was not just the biggest opener when it comes to Hrithik Roshan’s films, but also for Karan Johar and his company Dharma Productions. This remake of the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer 'Agneepath' had Sanjay Dutt and Rishi Kapoor in negative roles, while Priyanka Chopra was the heroine of this Karan Malhotra debut film.

Salman Khan ('Dabangg 2')

And bagging the No 3 position is Salman Khan again. The latest release was Salman Khan’s most anticipated and most awaited 'Dabangg 2' which made Rs 20.5 crore on the first day. This was the third biggest opening of the year and though one had a lot more expectations from the sequel to the blockbuster 'Dabangg' it delivered. The film had Sonakshi Sinha as the heroine with Arbaaz Khan making his debut as a director.

Akshay Kumar ('Khiladi 786')

Taking the No 4 position is Akshay Kumar's lastest film 'Khiladi 786' which managed a Rs 17.5 crore opening. This film saw Akshay return to his Khiladi avatar and the audiences welcomed him back with open arms as well. This comedy action film saw Asin as Akshay’s leading lady and Himesh Reshammiya co-produced the film.

Akshay Kumar (Rowdy Rathore)

In the Top 5 race occupying the No 5 slot is Akshay Kumar again whose film 'Rowdy Rathore' managed Rs 16 crore on the opening day. Based on the Telugu film 'Vikramakudu', the action and dialogue from Akshay Kumar kept the audiences spellbound and entertained them a lot. And his pairing with Sonakshi Sinha was also appreciated.

It is shocking that both Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan are not at all part of the top 5 openings of the year. The Diwali release - Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' — managed just Rs 15.25 crore on the opening day, while the Aamir Khan film 'Talaash' managed a Rs 14.50 crore opening only.

Ajay Devgn had two films — 'Bol Bachchan' made Rs 15 crore on the opening day, while 'Son of Sardaar' managed Rs 10.75 crore.

So in terms of opening collections, 2012 will be dedicated as the year of the Tiger a.k.a Salman Khan.
