Dubai fans of Bollywood’s Aamir Khan will be delighted to learn the actor is on his way to these shores later this week as he embarks on a promotional tour of his latest production, Peepli Live.

The actor confirmed the news on Saturday on microblogging site, Twitter, saying: “In London now. Travelling to LA, NY, Dubai and Australia for Peepli interviews and promotions.”

While no confirmed date has been mentioned on the tweet, sources close to the actor told Emirates 24|7 that Khan should arrive in Dubai by July 29 and will be staying at a luxury five-star creekside property in Deira for two nights. It has been speculated that wife Kiran Rao will also be joining him.

The star of 3 Idiots was also scheduled to make a special promotional visit the following evening at the It’s Mirchee nightclub at Ramee Royal Hotel, Dubai but the event was cancelled last minute.

A source close to the event said: “Aamir was meant to introduce a special 10-minute exclusive trailer of Peepli Live at the club with film director Anusha Rizvi but due to a tight timetable, the programme is not going ahead.”

Flyers for the Dubai club night had also been designed and were posted on Facebook and Boxofficeme.com. They have been subsequently removed.
Peepli Live is the latest from Aamir Khan Productions, which is being distributed by UTV Motion Pictures. The Rizvi written and directed film is a political satire on farmer suicides in India. The movie has already won rave reviews at the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals.

The movie is scheduled to release on August 12 across the UAE.

Khan's arrival in Dubai is expected to clash with that of Slumdog Millionaire star Anil Kapoor, who, along with daughter Sonam Kapoor, will be in Ghantoot on the same weekend at a rain dance to promote their film, Aisha.
Good thing his event has been called off because with that powerhouse in attendance, the turnout at the Kapoor event may have been in danger of dwindling down by half.
