Amitabh Bachchan turns 69 today. He was born in Allahabad and believes that the best ways to celebrate birthdays is to keep working. (AFP)
Most pensioners would celebrate each birthday as another year of life lived to the full, but for Amitabh Bachchan each day is worth celebrating.
The Bollywood icon, who turns 68 on Monday, says he has no special plans and doesn’t believe in making resolutions. “Birthdays come and go every year. And for me, every day is special. A resolution may force something on to a day which I don’t want,” he told the Hindustan Times newspaper. “I’m nearing 70 now. Sometimes, my knees and other joints ache and I know that I’m growing old.”
With an attitude of that sort, he isn’t thinking of retiring any time soon. “I want to continue to work for as long as my body will allow me,” he told the publication.
Suitably fitting, then, is the fact that his new game show, “Kaun banega crorepati”, the Indian version of ‘Who wants to be a millionaire”, kicks off tomorrow, too. His family, actor friend Rajnikanth and Team India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, among others, are expected to be present at the gala and the screening of the first episode.
He has shown no sign of slowing down. Over the past few weeks he has been busy filming television commercials, shooting episodes of KBC and getting into physical shape for his next film, the action thriller “Power”, where he plays a vigilante and has promised to do his own stunts.
It's an admirable work ethic that other stars would do well to learn from!
