Days before the World Cup, the Indian Cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has already a reason to celebrate

Dhoni's Wife Sakshi delivered their first baby, a girl, around 4pm at a private hospital in Gurgaon on Friday.

However, reports suggest that the baby was due in March but was born almost a month earlier- right on schedule for the World Cup.

According to Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI) officials, the delivery happened through C-section and the mother gave birth to a healthy child.

Dhoni missed the birth of his first child, a daughter born on Friday, for the Australia tour, but asked whether he would rather have been in India in recent days he said: "Not really."

"I have been blessed with a baby daughter. Mum and daughter both are good," AFP reports.

"But as of now I am on national duties so I think everything else can wait. The World Cup is a very important campaign."

India played their final tri-series game on January 30 and will begin the defence of their World Cup title against traditional rivals Pakistan on February 15 in Adelaide.

According to family sources, Sakshi visited the hospital complaining of cramps on Friday morning. However, after medical examination, it was informed that she was in her labour after which she underwent a surgery.

Hospital sources informed that Dhoni's wife is likely to get discharged early this week.

The baby weighs 3.7 kg, according to the doctors. Dhoni is currently busy preparing for India's title defence at the World Cup in Australia.

Sakshi is generally seen travelling with his husband on tours but she didn't travel with Dhoni during the Australia tour.

Dhoni had tied the nuptial knot with childhood friend Sakshi Singh Rawat on July 4, 2010.
