Dubai scores a six with a date with Sachin Tendulkar

Cricket fans across the UAE are desperately pitching for a chance to nab the hottest tickets of the year, as legendary sportsman and newly nominated member of the Indian Rajya Sabha, Sachin Tendulkar, bats for an evening with fans in Dubai.

The June 9 event at InterContinental, Dubai Festival City is part of a six-city tour, which will be held over the next three years as part of FidelisWorld’s Celebration Series that pays tribute to the iconic Indian cricketer.

In a media statement, the company stated: “The first Evening with Sachin Tendulkar will take place in Dubai, the headquarters of the FidelisWorld Group.”

For those not in the know FidelisWorld has interests in sports, entertainment, and media sectors, better known for being the co-owners of the United Sikkim Football Club with Bhaichung Bhutia; as well as exclusive rights to the Wisden cricket brand in the Indian subcontinent, UAE, and North America.

Tendulkar added in a statement: “I am happy to be partnering with FidelisWorld and having an opportunity to meet my fans and supporters in the UAE through this event.

“I have many fond memories of playing in this country, and have always appreciated the success and support I have had here. I look forward to being in Dubai for the first stop of a six-city world tour.”

The evening will have Tendulkar sharing personal perspectives on his career in an interactive session with the guests.

More information on tickets wasn’t available at the time, despite repeated attempts to contact event organisers by Emirates 24|7.

Tendulkar will also auction some personal memorabilia at the event, with the proceeds going to an unnamed charity.

He will also be presented with an Outstanding Achievement Award from Wisden India in recognition of his accomplishments as a serial centurion.

“The black-tie affair will offer a limited number of guests the opportunity for an intimate evening of dinner and entertainment with the maestro,” the release further stated.

Meanwhile, fans of Tendulkar can catch the ‘master blaster’ in action tonight at the ongoing Indian Premiere League (IPL) 5 matches, where the veteran will take on former skipper Sourav Ganguly on the field as Mumbai Indians faces Pune Warriors today.

The 45th match of IPL will take place in Subrata Roy Sahara stadium of Pune. The match will start at 6.30pm UAE time.
